2018-03-18 - InterLAN joins the AS112 project by providing an anycast instance to respond DNS queries

The AS112 project is a group of name server operators in an autonomous system running anycasts instances of name servers that respond to reverse DNS queries for private addresses and private networks sent to the Internet. The distributed sink for queries sent to non-unique IP addresses helps reduce the load on the authoritative servers due to this kind of ambiguous queries by their nature which can not be answered corectly. It is named after the Autonomous System Number (ASN) that has been assigned to it.

InterLAN is one of the volunteer operators participating in the AS112 project. Anycasts prefixes of this project are advertised in InterLAN platform by a dedicated server that has peering sessions with Exchange Route Servers, this way the service is automatically available to network operators connected to these RSs.

To whom does the InterLAN interconnection platform address?

The InterLAN Internet Exchange interconnection platform addresses any entity who owns a data network and who is interested in interconnecting with the other networks on the platform. They can be dixed and mobile Internet access service providers, network operators, content service providers, social media platforms, educational networks, financial-banking institutions, internet domain name service providers, state institutions, mass-media institutions etc.

How can I connect?

To connect to the Internet Exchange platform, it is necessary to conclude an interconnection agreement. The physical connection can be realized in data centers in which InterLAN has points of presence in Bucharest, Constanta, Timisoara or Craiova. In order to realize the data traffic exchange it is necessary to own an autonomous system number (AS number), the communication being realized through the BGP protocol (Border Gateway Protocol).

What are the available interconnection capacities?

Active equipment that allow connection to the InterLAN infrastructure has available copper ports with speeds of 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps and optic fibers with speeds of 1 Gbps and 10 Gbps, respectively. The availability of the ports depends on the equipment installed in the collocation center in which the interconnection is performed.

Is port aggregation allowed?

In order to increase the interconnecion capacity, two or several ports of the same capacity can be aggregated. They must be connected to the same network equipment using the “port channel” technology.

Can direct BGP sessions be initiated with the other traffic participants?

Any traffic participant is free to initiate direct BGP sessions with any of the other participants, based on mutual agreements, with a Layer2 InterLAN infrastructure.

Is the BGP session with Interlan route-servers mandatory?

The BGP session with Interlan route-servers is not mandatory as it is offered in order to facilitate interconnection with the other present participants. Each participant can have his own peering policy.
