InterLAN-IX is distributed in 5 independent locations in Bucharest and 2 extra locations outside Bucharest - Cluj Napoca and Constanta. Each location is equipped with one or more Ethernet switches which support all together the InterLAN infrastructure.
The Points of Presence are:Bd. Decebal (Muncii area), Teiul Doamnei (Obor area), Str. Brasov (Dr. Taberei area), Bd. Al. Obregia (Berceni area) and NX-Data (Pipera area).
The connection to InterLAN-IX infrastructure is made through 100/1000/10000 Mbps interfaces, copper or Gbic/SFP modules.

In order to prevent potential interconnection issues between InterLAN-IX and the IX participants, access ports are configured to shut down automatically if technical issues affecting other member's traffic arise.

 Network Loops
The greatest danger of Ethernet are ethernet loops. Leaved without surveillance, these loops can incapacitate any network. The broadcast is returned endlessly towards the network, which in turn overcharges the equipment processors and in the worst case creates a broadcast storm.

 Port Security
InterLAN-IX uses several technologies to combat network loops. This features are present in almost all equipment, that of limiting the number of MAC addresses learned by a port and of filtering the frames originating from an other MAC than the first one learned. Finally the presence of any network loop will be terminated by shutting down the port.
